Set Up an Android Hacking Lab for $0 - TrustedSec

··1 min

TrustedSec provides some big contributions to information security. This time they published an interesting article on how to set up an Android hacking lab for $0: an Android Studio emulator (a Pixel 5 image with superuser access out of the box), adb for sideloading or pulling APKs, and Frida plus Objection for hooking the running app. The practice target is Damn Vulnerable Bank, an intentionally vulnerable Android banking app with a dockerized backend whose spoiler-hidden bug list includes root and emulator detection, so the lab hands you a bypass exercise early on. Objection is SensePost’s Frida-powered runtime exploration toolkit, built to assess mobile apps without needing a jailbreak, and takes care of chores like SSL pinning bypasses and memory dumps. Pro tip from the article: keep Frida in a Python virtual environment, because library updates like to break it.
