Nmap 25th Anniversary Release

··1 min

Version 7.93 of the famous network scanner Nmap was released. The anniversary announcement includes a few interesting goodies. In it, Gordon “Fyodor” Lyon marks 25 years since Nmap first appeared in the Phrack article “The Art of Port Scanning” and calls this a fixes-and-stability release that lays the base for the feature releases leading up to Nmap 8. The changelog has the details: Npcap jumps from 1.50 to 1.71, Nmap now builds against OpenSSL 3.0 without deprecated API calls (the binaries ship with 3.0.5), and libssh2, zlib, Lua and libpcap get upgraded as well. A quarter of a century in, and it is still the first thing most of us type after ping.
