Mapping the Global Spyware Market

··1 min

The Atlantic Council’s Digital Forensic Research Lab (DFRLab) published a report on the global spyware market. It maps 435 entities across 42 countries, from vendors and subsidiaries to investors and individuals, and finds a large share of them in Israel, India and Italy. DFRLab also has an overview in another related article, which uses the Intellexa Consortium as a case study. That market view holds up: Recorded Future’s Insikt Group found that Intellexa’s Predator operators had rebuilt their delivery infrastructure after public exposure and otherwise carried on with minimal changes, with suspected customers in at least eleven countries. And even Google TAG had an article in early 2024 about the spyware market and commercial surveillance vendors, which it blames for half of the known 0-day exploits targeting Google products and Android devices.
