FinFisher managers indicted

··1 min

German prosecutors have indicted four former CEOs of FinFisher. They are accused of having sold surveillance technology to the Turkish secret service without permission. According to the prosecutors, the 5.04 million euro deal from 2015 was routed through a Bulgarian company on paper and named a non-existent customs authority in Ankara as the recipient. The investigation is based on the complaint of Netzpolitik.org, Gesellschaft für Freiheitsrechte, Reporter ohne Grenzen and European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights. Access Now’s 2018 analysis had already linked the mobile version of FinSpy to attacks in Turkey, including one against the main opposition party during a protest. ECCHR points out that the FinFisher group had to cease operations in spring 2022, so the defendants will have to answer without their company behind them.
