Comprehensive Rust is a four-day Rust course from Google’s Android team that goes from basic syntax to generics, error handling and a first look at unsafe Rust. Day 4 covers concurrency in the morning and Android in the afternoon: building Android components in Rust, AIDL servers and clients, and interoperability with C, C++ and Java. It assumes you can already program and draws comparisons with C and C++ along the way. Why Android wants its engineers writing Rust is in Google’s post on memory safe languages in Android 13: about 21% of all new native code in Android 13 is Rust, and so far not a single memory safety vulnerability has been found in Android’s Rust code. Async, macros and the gory details of unsafe are explicitly out of scope, so the Rustonomicon keeps its spot on your nightstand for now.
Update 2026-10-31: The course has since grown: the four days are now Rust Fundamentals, and Android, Chromium, bare-metal and concurrency (async included) are separate deep dives.
